Australian Mick DiBetta is a legend among waterman. A father figure in the world of paddling, Mick has long been a leader in the prone paddling, a technique that has been close to unbeatable over the nine years of the Molokai to Oahu paddleboard race. DiBetta debuted his winning style in the inaugural Molokai to Oahu crossing in 1997, recording a time of 5 hours, 22 minutes and 48 seconds. The record stood for seven years until Jamie Mitchell, Mick’s trainee, set a new record in 2004.
DiBetta was responsible for coaching current world paddleboard champion Jamie Mitchell (Australia) to victory in the Molokai to Oahu numerous times. He also coaches Shakira Westdorp and other Aussie paddlers.
